The Gates Foundation, has already spent $10 billion on global health, but the leaders in charitable giving are pushing even further in the quest to “come together to save women’s and children’s lives,” committing $1.5 billion over five years to maternal and child health projects.

According to a recent NYT article the Foundation’s funds will aim to “pay for projects like training health workers, developing improved antibiotics for infections in newborns and finding better ways to treat hemorrhage in mothers.”

There are many different arguments about treatment and approach but one fact is unassailable: when smart groups commit serious financial contributions and time to problems such as this, we get closer to relief for those so desperately in need. That’s why we work as hard as we do here at Empowerment Health and that’s why this announcement is so welcome.
