UNODC and Afghanistan’s anti-corruption unit have released a report documenting an increase in both bribery and it’s fiscal repercussion in Afghanistan. “More than 68% surveyed considered it acceptable for a civil servant to top up a low salary by accepting small bribes – up from 42% in 2009.” Both the Afghan government and the Afghan community understand the prevalence and risks of this widespread problem.
