An unprecedented number of citizens are expected to vote in today’s Afghan elections. Voting has been encouraged, including reports of festivities with drums and dancing in some areas like Panjwayi. Among the voters are Afghan women who are determined to exercise their right to vote for a more democratic Afghanistan.
Although the future of Afghanistan is unclear at time when foreign troops are withdrawing, today marks a day of hope for Afghans. Many are proud to show off their blue-inked finger telling us all, “I voted.”
In solidarity with the Afghans we serve, Empowerment Health wishes the people of Afghanistan a peaceful and progressive election. Afghanistan Zindabad! (Long live Afghanistan!)
